Window mode is one of the ways that you can use SlingProjector to transmit images from your PC to your SlingCatcher (and into your TV).
Activate Window mode either by:
- Clicking the Window mode button on the SlingProjector application, or
- Press the keyboard shortcut F5.
There are two ways to use Window mode:
- Automatic:
- Press the Window mode button
- Move the pointer over an item that you want to project, without clicking. If you move the pointer over a window, you'll see that the pointer automatically selects the entire window. But as you continue to move the pointer around, it also picks out various other shapes within the window. For example, if you were looking at an online video site, the pointer would detect and highlight the video site's viewer window.
- When the window that you want to project is highlighted, click your left (primary) mouse button to select it and project it to your TV.
- Manual Region:
- Use Manual Region draw if SlingProjector's automatic mode doesn't select the regions that you want (or it doesn't select them the way that you want).
- Click and drag draw a rectangle around the area that you want to project.
With this method, you can select exactly what you want to project to your TV, instead of letting SlingProjector pick out the items. This is important because sometimes Automatic mode can't accurately detect what you want to project. It can also be used when you want to project an oddly-shaped screen object, or if you want to split SlingProjector's "attention" between two windows.
Once you specify what you want SlingProjector to send to your SlingCatcher, it's best to avoid moving or resizing windows on the PC, as doing that could affect whether SlingProjector can transmit what you want it to:
- If you minimize the window being projected: SlingProjector pauses. You are alerted, both on the PC and on the TV, that you need to restore the window to continue.
- If you move the window being projected: SlingProjector tries to "follow" the window wherever you move it.
- If you move the window behind other windows: SlingProjector shows whatever is on top. Make sure what you want SlingProjector to transmit is always on top.
- To move the projected area: move your pointer over the center of any of the four sides of the selection box (indicated by a white line). The pointer turns into a hand icon, letting you know that you can move the selection box.
- To resize the projected area: move your pointer over any part of the selection box except the center where the white line is. The pointer turns into a double arrow, letting you know that you can resize the selection box.
Right-click functionality includes most SlingProjector functions. If you right-click over the SlingProjector application, most functions are accessible. If you right-click the boundary (and only the boundary) of the selection rectangle, you can move, resize, and edit the selection rectangle.
How big an area can I project?
This depends on the resources available on your PC, specifically what kind of CPU it has, how much RAM is installed, and the graphics hardware that it has. SlingProjector performance is also affected by the speed of your home network: the faster the connection between your PC, your router, and your SlingCatcher, the better video playback on your TV looks.
If you try to project an area that is too large, you see a Performance Warning in the SlingProjector application. See the link below.
