Adding an additional audio/video source

If there are available input ports on the back of your Slingbox, you can connect additional audio/video sources. SlingPlayer gives you the option of switching between input sources while you're watching your TV.

To add an additional device to your Slingbox:

  1. Connect the cables from the new device to an available set of ports on the back of your Slingbox.
  2. Position an IR blaster in front of the infrared remote control sensor of the new device that you're connecting.
Note: The IR blaster cable that came with your Slingbox has at least two IR emitters on it (they look like little bulbs in a black plastic holder) so you can use an IR blaster cable for more than one device at a time. You can locate the IR blaster either above the infrared sensor or below it. (See your Slingbox Quick Start Guide for more information.)
  3. Launch SlingPlayer 2.0.
  4. Choose Setup Assistant from the Settings menu.
    The Slingbox Setup Assistant opens.
  5. At the Setup Assistant greeting screen, click Next.
  6. If you have one local Slingbox on your network, skip to the next step. If you have more than one local Slingbox on your network, click to select the one that you're connecting the new A/V device to.
  7. Enter the Administrator password for the Slingbox, then click Next.
  8. Click Configure Video Sources from Edit Settings on the left-side panel of the Setup Assistant.
You see a table that lists the available ports on your Slingbox, as well as a diagram of its back panel. See Note, below.
  9. Indicate the available port that you've connected the new A/V device to. You can do that:
    1. by clicking to select the port from the table that lists the available ports, or
    2. by clicking the port on the diagram of the back of your Slingbox.
  10. Once you've made your port selection, click Next.
  11. Follow the onscreen instructions to configure your Slingbox for the new A/V device ... or to reconfigure an existing one, if that's what you're doing.

Note: the port that you want to connect the new A/V device to should list Connected Device as Unconfigured, meaning that it's not currently in use. If there's a device listed for that port, then the port has been already configured.

If the port that you want to use is already configured:

  • If you want to clear away that configuration and start over: click Reset.
  • If you want to change settings for that configured device (programming provider, remote control settings, etc.): select the already-configured port to edit it.
