Connecting the Slingbox to a wireless home network

For the best results, we strongly recommend a wired connection from your Slingbox to your home router. This provides the simplest setup and the best quality signal.

However, if your router (wireless or not) is not in the same room as your video source, then you need a way to connect that Slingbox to your home network. There are a couple of ways to do this:

SlingLink TURBO

You can use a pair of SlingLink TURBO Powerline Ethernet adapters to turn your home electrical wiring into part of your home network. You can even get one with 4 Ethernet ports, allowing you to use the SlingLink to not only bring the Internet to your Slingbox, but also to your TiVo or game console.

Here is how it works:

IMPORTANT: For optimal performance, it is strongly recommended that you connect the wall-plug bridges directly to a wall outlet. Do not connect them to a power strip or extension cord.

Wireless Bridge

If the SlingLinks won't work for you, you can try using a wireless bridge, or wireless gaming adapter. If you go out and get one, remember that you will need to configure the wireless bridge to connect to your wireless network before you hook it up to your Slingbox. This process should be spelled out in the directions for your wireless bridge.

Once it is configured and connected to your wireless network, then you can connect the wireless bridge to your Slingbox using the supplied Ethernet cable.

We highlyrecommend that you test the bridge where you plan to use the Slingbox. Wireless networks vary in signal strength from location to location.

Note: if you are using a wireless bridge to connect a Slingbox PRO-HD to your wireless network, there is a good chance that you will not be able to stream in HD. HD streaming takes a lot of bandwidth, something that most wireless bridges cannot handle.
