Virtual Remote Control Troubleshooting

One of the great features of the SlingPlayer software is that it gives you complete control over the devices connected to your Slingbox, just as if you were using your remote control at home.

If you have a cable/satellite box, you can change channels or view the interactive guide. If you have a DVR or VCR, you can watch a recorded show or even program a recording from outside of the home.

Before the Slingbox can control your device, you need to select the proper IR (infrared) code for your it. The Setup Assistant will help you find the right one.

While we include thousands of codes in our IR/Remote Control Database, there is always the chance that your device is not among them. Before giving up, try the following. You may just find a code that works!

  • If the manufacturer is listed, but not your specific device, try similar devices from the same manufacturer. Often the same code works for different devices.
  • If you don’t see your manufacturer at all, be sure to check the list for the service provider. For example, your TiVo might be manufactured by Humax, which isn’t on the manufacturers list. However, TiVo is listed, and the codes listed for TiVo work for all TiVo makes.
  • As a last resort, choose “Other” from the list and try the codes listed there.

Note: New codes are included with each software upgrade. Please check our website periodically for available software updates.
