Virtual Remote Control Troubleshooting

One of the great features of the SlingPlayer software is that it gives you complete control over the devices connected to your Slingbox, just as if you were using your remote control at home.

If you have a cable/satellite box, you can change channels or view the Slingbox Guide. If you have a DVR or VCR, you can watch a recorded show, or even program a recording while you're away from home.

Before the Slingbox can control your device, you need to select the proper IR (infrared) code for the device's remote control. The Setup Assistant helps you find the right code.

While there are thousands of remote codes in the Slingbox IR/Remote Control Database, there is always the chance that your device is not among them. Before giving up, try the following. You may just find a code that works!

  • If the manufacturer is listed, but not your specific device, try similar devices from the same manufacturer. Often the same code works for different devices.
  • If you don’t see your manufacturer at all, be sure to check the list for the service provider. For example, your TiVo DVR might be manufactured by Humax, which isn’t on the manufacturers list. However, TiVo is listed, and the codes listed for TiVo work for all TiVo makes.
  • As a last resort, choose Other from the list and try the codes listed there.

Note: New codes are included with each software upgrade. Please check our website periodically for available software updates.
