If this happens, you need to do some troubleshooting on the remote computer or handheld device. Here’s what to do:

  1. Check your firewall settings and make sure that they aren’t preventing a connection. Your firewall must be configured to allow a connection to your Slingbox. For information on accessing your Slingbox from behind a firewall, see our article on Internet Security and Personal Firewalls.

  2. Make sure that your local network connection is up and running. If you’re reading this article online, you have a good Internet connection.

  3. Check the proxy settings on your computer. Make sure that they are set up properly for your network.

  4. Double-check that you’re using the correct Slingbox ID for your Slingbox. If don’t have your Slingbox ID, you can try using the public IP address of your home network, if you know it. You can use the public IP address of your home network to connect to your Slingbox instead of the Slingbox ID.
