You can watch your HD-only content using your Slingbox SOLO, or using your Slingbox PRO with the Sling Media HD Connect product.
IMPORTANT NOTE: While you can watch your HD content in either of these ways, this HD content does not stream in high definition. Instead, it uses SlingStream technology to convert the HD video stream into standard definition, then it compresses the video to match the available network and Internet bandwidth. In this way, it streams the HD content in high quality standard definition form.
You can watch HD content in high definition with the Slingbox PRO-HD.
The Slingbox SOLO, and the Slingbox PRO/HD Connect combination, support analog downsampling from 480p, 720p, 768p, and 1080i to standard definition. There is support for either 16:9 or 4:3 aspect ratios, based on user settings, and encode resolutions up to 640x480.
The Slingbox SOLO accepts component video directly. (Component and S-video cables are sold separately.)
The Slingbox PRO requires the Sling Media HD Connect product to work with your HD equipment. The HD Connect port on the back of your Slingbox PRO is designed specifically to work in tandem with HD Connect. If you plug your HD device directly into the Slingbox PRO without using HD Connect, the Slingbox does not recognize the video signal coming from that device; it behaves as if nothing is connected to the port at all. You can purchase the HD Connect cable from the Sling Media Store online at store.slingmedia.com.
