Your Slingbox firmware is the brain of your Slingbox. It's the set of instructions that your Slingbox needs to encode your audio/video signal and then send it over the Internet to your computer or mobile phone. From time to time, we update the firmware to provide better product operation. When that happens, upgrading your Slingbox's firmware allows you to take advantage of these improvements.
Firmware updates usually are included with updates to the SlingPlayer software for your desktop computer. So, if you have the latest SlingPlayer software installed, you're good to go! However, there are rare instances when updated Slingbox firmware is issued separately from a SlingPlayer desktop release. When that happens, if you want to update your Slingbox's firmware, you need to do it manually. This article describes exactly how to do that.
Note: Firmware updates may not apply to all Slingbox models.
This article divides the task into seven easy steps. Advanced users might be able to understand the process simply by reading the titles of the steps. Full explanations follow, if you need them.
1 - Download the Slingbox firmware file.
2 - Open SlingPlayer.
3 - Access your Slingbox Configuration settings.
4 - Log in to your Slingbox.
5 - Locate the downloaded firmware update file on your computer.
6 - Update the firmware on your Slingbox.
7 - You're done!!!
The first step is to download the latest software. You can find all the latest Sling Media software on our downloads page.
To make the process as simple as possible, you should select your Desktop as the download location.
Launch SlingPlayer, and then select your Slingbox from the Slingbox Directory. Click Edit, and the Properties window for that Slingbox opens.

Once the Properties window is open, click the Slingbox Configuration tab. In the "Update Slingbox Firmware" section, click Change.

Log in to your Slingbox using your Slingbox administrator's password. If you can't remember your administrator's password, you'll need to reset your Slingbox to continue.
After you log in to your Slingbox, the Slingbox Update page of the Slingbox Setup Wizard appears. Click Browse to locate the firmware file you just downloaded.

If you downloaded the file to your Desktop, it should look something like this. Once you have selected the file, click Open.

Once the firmware file has been located and opened, the Slingbox Update page should look something like this:

Make sure the "Update the firmware now" option is selected, then click Next.
The firmware update starts. This may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of your connection to your Slingbox.
Your Slingbox firmware is updated. When your Slingbox restarts, you can reconnect and start watching all your favorite TV shows again!
