How to uninstall SlingPlayer Mobile for Windows Smartphone

There may very well come a time that you want to uninstall the copy of SlingPlayer Mobile you installed on your Windows Smartphone. Usually this is because you got a new phone and you want to make sure that the person you are giving your phone to doesn't watch your TV.

Before you hand over that phone, be sure to follow the steps outlined below.

The first step in uninstalling the software is to make sure that you have completely exited the application on your phone. Just closing the window or leaving the SlingPlayer application because of an interruption will not completely quit the application and you will not be able to uninstall it properly. To be 100% sure that the application is ready to be uninstalled, you should disconnect your mobile device from the PC, start SlingPlayer Mobile, and select “Menu” and then “Exit”.

If you previously performed a PC-based installation (Automatic Installer):

Connect your device to the PC.  Make sure ActiveSync connection is established.  On your PC, go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.  Select SlingPlayer Mobile (not “SlingPlayer”), and follow instructions to remove.

You will be prompted to choose the file you want to “remove” or “install” in a dialog box.  Please make sure you uncheck the box next to SlingPlayer Mobile, and then highlight the application (e.g. in blue as shown below).  Click “Remove” at lower right hand corner of that dialog box.  Then hit “OK”.  See illustration below:

To double check after you finish:

  • On your mobile device, go to Start > File Manager > Program Files. Sling Media >SlingPlayer Mobile directory or folder should also be removed.

  • If not, manually delete that directory or folder.

Turn off the phone and turn it back on again.

If you previously performed a Direct Device Download and installation using a CAB file:

On your mobile device, go to Start > Task Manager.  Click “Stop All” (or “Kill All”) to stop all running programs.

On your mobile device, go to Start > Settings > Remove Programs.  Remove SlingPlayer Mobile.

To double check after you finish:

  • On your mobile device, go to Start > File Manager > Program Files. Sling Media >SlingPlayer Mobile directory or folder should also be removed.
  • If not, manually delete that directory or folder.
  • Turn off the phone and turn it back on again.

A “Master Reset” or “Clear Storage” will also remove (all) applications from the device and return phone to its factory settings, although this should not be necessary in most circumstances.
