For most folks, when they upgrade their PC to Microsoft Vista, the SlingPlayer will just work. They'll be up and watching TV in minutes as if nothing had changed on the computer at all!
But unfortunately, there are some situations where the SlingPlayer just will not work. You may get errors when attempting to connect to a remote Slingbox. Or you may not see the Slingbox that is located on your local network.
Both situations may have the same cause and the same solution.
What you need to do is change the SlingPlayer program to run in what is called "Compatibility Mode." Below are the steps to make that happen. In order to perform these steps, you'll need to have access to an Administrator account or be logged in as an Administrator.
The first step is to open up the Properties of the SlingPlayer program. To do this, right-click on the SlingPlayer shortcut on your desktop or on the SlingPlayer icon in your Programs folder. From the contextual menu that pops up, select Properties.

Once the Properties window is open, click on the Compatibility tab.

In this window, check the box next to "Run program in Compatibility mode for Windows XP." Once that is selected, check the box next to the option to "Run this program as an administrator" in the Privilege Level section of the window.

Click Apply to apply your changes and close the window by clicking OK.
Note: If any of the above options are not available (grayed out), you may not have administrative privileges.
The next time you open the SlingPlayer program, your issues with connecting to remote Slingboxes or finding local ones should be resolved. |
