Technical specs for SlingCatcher, SlingProjector, and My Media


To use the SlingCatcher you need to have a TV  (standard definition or high definition) and a router on your home network to hook up the SlingCatcher. If your home router is not near your TV, we recommend a pair of SlingLink TURBO ethernet "bridges" to get your SlingCatcher online. SlingLink TURBO bridges will, in most cases, provide a higher quality picture than wireless.

SlingCatcher System Requirements:

  • A TV that supports any of: 480i (NTSC), 576i (PAL/SECAM), 480p*, 576p*, 720p*, or 1080i* (Note: SlingCatcher supports streaming from any Slingbox regardless of input video format)
  • A broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable modem)
  • Home network
  • Optional FAT32 formatted USB 2.0 hard disk drive or USB 2.0 flash memory stick accessory required for local playback of video/audio files

* Requires component or HDMI cable purchased separately

Requirements for SlingPlayer within SlingCatcher:

  • A Slingbox (with Internet Viewing enabled, if you're outside your home)
  • To access a Slingbox outside the home, you will need a Sling Account

Requirements for SlingProjector:

  • A SlingCatcher (so you can use SlingProjector to stream video and audio content from your PC to SlingCatcher, for viewing on your TV)
  • Video that you can play on your PC. Virtually any video or audio format that can be played on your PC can be streamed to the TV
  • Note: SlingProjector does not work with the 64-bit version of Vista

PC Requirements for SlingProjector:

  • Microsoft Windows Vista or Windows XP with Service Pack 2
  • Intel Core Duo CPU at 1.6GHz; Intel Pentium IV of Pentium M CPU at 3.0 GHz
  • 1 GB of RAM for Windows Vista; 512 MB of RAM for Windows XP
  • Network connectivity
  • Display resolution of 1024x768
  • 50 MB of available disk space for installation

Requirements for My Media:

  • A USB hard drive, formatted using the FAT32 file system
  • Digital media on that drive in formats that are supported by the SlingCatcher

Supported media formats:

  • Video: WMV, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, Xvid
  • Audio: MP2, MP3, WMA, AAC, AC3
  • File formats: .avi, .vob, .ifo, .ps, .ts, .mpg, .wmv, .asf, .mov, .mp4,.m4v, .mp3, .wma, .mp4a, .m4a, .wav

TV Compatibility:

Compatible with most standard definition and high definition TVs as long as they have at least one input port that the SlingCatcher supports. Check the back of your TV. Does it have an open composite (red/white/yellow), S-Video, component (red/green/blue), or HDMI port? If so, you're good to go.
