My computer freezes when I use SlingProjector

SlingProjector needs some solid horsepower to encode what's being displayed on your screen, and then stream that video to your SlingCatcher.

If your computer doesn't quite meet the minimum system requirements for the SlingProjector software, or if it just barely meets them, then your computer could become unresponsive while you're using SlingProjector.

So what to do?

If your system doesn't meet ... or just barely meets ... the system requirements for SlingProjector, the best and most permanent solution is getting a faster computer. (For more information, click the links in the "Related Information" section on this page.)

If your computer comfortably meets or exceeds SlingProjector system requirements, sometimes the issue can be resolved just by quitting and restarting SlingProjector.

If the issue persists, you can try projecting a smaller portion of the screen to your SlingCatcher. Just move the cursor to one of the corners of the selected area and wait for it to turn into two arrows, like this:

Then you can click and hold the mouse button, and drag the edge of the selected area to make it a smaller size.

Is the laptop power-saver override feature enabled?

Finally, check to see if the laptop power-saver override feature is switched on. Here's how:

  • Choose Options from the SlingProjector menu, then click the Miscellaneous tab.

  • Make sure that Override current power scheme settings when running on battery power is enabled (that's the default setting).

This feature changes the settings of your PC so that your CPU operates at full power when you're projecting video to your TV.  The change is temporary, and reverts to your PC's original setting when you're not projecting video.
