Before you do anything else, make sure that all audio, video, and
network cables are connected as described in the SlingCatcher User
Guide. If you don't have yours, there's a link on the right to download
it.
If the problems continue, look for your symptoms below:
No video or fuzzy video on your TV
Check
the TV input source settings if your TV has them. It should be set to
the same input that SlingCatcher is connected to. For example, if your
SlingCatcher is connected to A/V Device 1 on your TV, set your TV to
display A/V Device 1. - Redo all your video cables. Unplug them from both your TV and the
SlingCatcher. And then reattach them, making sure that they are firmly
in place.
- If this is a first setup or installation, SlingCatcher may not be
outputting a video format that can be accepted by your TV. Press and
hold the OK and UP buttons on the remote control for 5 seconds. The
“Return to Factory Resolution” screen appears, with the following
settings reset:
- The aspect ratio goes back to 4:3.
- Your SlingCatcher’s resolution settings go back to factory defaults (480i for the US and Canada, 576i for UK).
- If you are connected via HDMI, try unplugging and replugging your HDMI cable.
- If HDMI isn't working for you - then try component instead.
SlingCatcher does not respond to the remote control
- When you hit a button on the remote, does the remote status light
flash? (Watch the button with the Sling logo on it: every time you
press a remote button, a red light should flash from beneath this
button.) If you see this remote status light flash, the remote is fine
and the issue is with the SlingCatcher.
- If the light doesn't flash, verify that the batteries in the remote have been inserted correctly.
- If needed, replace the remote control batteries.
- Make sure that there is a clear line of sight between the remote control and SlingCatcher.
No audio
- Make sure that the audio cables are connected correctly to your TV or home audio system and SlingCatcher.
- Make sure that your TV or home audio system is turned on and the volume is turned up.
- Make sure the input setting you've selected on your audio system
matches the input you have your audio cables connected to. See the
documentation that came with your system for more information.
- If you are using digital audio from the SlingCatcher to your TV or
audio system (HDMI or SPDIF) and aren't getting sound with My Media
content, the issue may be with how the content was encoded. See this
article for more info: My Media files don't seem to have any audio. There's a link to it on the right side of this page.
- If you're connected to the HDMI port on your TV and SlingCatcher,
make sure your TV supports audio through its HDMI port. The HDMI ports
on some older TVs support only video.
- If you are using HDMI audio, try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable.
- If you're connected to the HDMI port on your TV and SlingCatcher,
make sure your TV is setup to receive audio from HDMI. For some TV's
this is automatic, but for others there is a choice between digital and
analog (for HDMI audio, choose digital).
- If possible, try using different audio cables.
Unable to connect to my SlingCatcher from the SlingProjector software
- Make sure that your PC is properly connected to your router.
- Make sure that your router is powered on.
- Make sure that the Ethernet cable is firmly connected to SlingCatcher and to your router or SlingLink.
- Make sure that your PC and your SlingCatcher are connected to the
same network. Usually this means that they're connected to the same
router.
- Once those things are addressed, you should be able to connect to your PC so you can use the SlingProjector software.
Unable to connect to a Slingbox from SlingCatcher
- Verify that you are logged in to the SlingCatcher with your Sling Account. If not, log in.
- Make sure that SlingCatcher is connected to your home network correctly.
- If the Slingbox Software (or firmware) on your Slingbox is old, you
may need to update it before using it with the SlingCatcher. See this
article for more information:
Slingbox Software must be up to date to work with SlingCatcher. There's a link to it on the right side of this page.
- Make sure that your Slingbox is set up correctly. A Slingbox cannot
be set up using SlingCatcher. You must use SlingPlayer (PC or Mac) to
set up a Slingbox.
You see
"Unable to connect to the Slingbox due to a network error" on your TV- If
you're unable to connect to your Slingbox from SlingCatcher and you see
that error, there's a quick solution. What may be confusing is that
Internet Viewing from your Slingbox still works on a computer or on a
mobile phone. Still, it’s quick to fix it.
While this looks like
it's a problem with your SlingCatcher, it's actually a simple problem
with your Slingbox configuration. You just have to go to where the
Slingbox is located (usually, this is your home network). Next, on a
computer on that network, you have to configure remote viewing manually.
The easiest way is to use our online network assistant, and there's an
article on how to use it. Just use the link on the right side of this
page. Follow the steps on that page. That's all!
As a last resort
Reset your router and cable or DSL modem by unplugging both units and plugging them in again after waiting 30 seconds.
Once done, you should reset your SlingCatcher by holding down the
Reset button for more than 10 seconds, clearing out all your personal
data and settings. |
