How to optimize streaming performance in SlingPlayer Mobile

Here's how to optimize streaming in SlingPlayer Mobile.

With SlingPlayer on a PC or Mac, a slow Internet connection at home can affect picture quality when viewing remotely. With Sling Player Mobile connections, the type and quality of your phone's data connection or capacity will have an even greater impact.

Connecting to a 3G network (such as EV-DO or HSDPA) versus an older generation data network (such as GPRS or EDGE) allows for better quality streaming. If your mobile device supports Wi-Fi, consider using it in locations where your cellular connection may not be very fast. In all cases, the stronger your network signal strength, the better results you'll see.

SlingPlayer Mobile also allows you to directly configure quality settings. Depending on the device that you have, it may be slightly different.

If video quality is more important than that of the audio, you can turn down the Audio Settings. For example, if you lower the Audio Settings from Stereo High to Mono Low, you're lowering the demands that the audio requires and that frees up capacity for video. The opposite is also true. If you just want audio, you can turn up the Audio Settings to Stereo High and set the Player Mode to Audio Only, which turns off the video part of the stream.

Some versions of SlingPlayer Mobile allow you to watch video Fullscreen and some versions even allow you to change Full Screen Video Quality from Normal to High.*

If you're experiencing pauses or hiccups in video playback; noticing audio/video syncing issues; pixelated, blocky, or blurry video; and if these issues seem to appear more often with high-action content or after extended periods of playback, you might try reducing the Full Screen Video Quality from High to Normal or just not watching in Fullscreen mode. Just remember that video playback with the Normal setting may not be as sharp or clear as the High setting.

Again, if your phone's data connection or capacity is poor, making any of these changes might not have a positive impact.

*SlingPlayer Mobile on your brand of cell phone or PDA may have slightly different audio and video controls.
