My remote doesn't show up (or it's the wrong remote)

If your remote doesn't show up, or if it's the wrong remote, there are a few things you can take a look at.

Basically, if your remote shows up properly in SlingPlayer for Windows, or SlingPlayer for Mac OS, then it should display properly for SlingPlayer for Sling.com as well.

So:

  1. Launch SlingPlayer on your computer, then connect to your Slingbox. Does the correct remote show up?
  2. If it does not, then you'll need to re-run a portion of the Setup Assistant from SlingPlayer. It'll just take a few minutes.

To run the Slingbox Setup Assistant from SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows

  1. From the Settings menu, choose Setup Assistant.
  2. When the Setup Assistant opens, select your Slingbox (entering the Administrator's password when prompted).
  3. Click Configure Video Sources from the links on the left.
  4. In the next screen, click to select the input port for the device that has the wrong remote.
  5. Click Next, then continue through the Setup Assistant to reconfirm the settings for that device.
  6. When you're done, go back to SlingPlayer and confirm that the correct remote appears for your A/V device.

Note: If you don't yet have SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows, why the heck not? It's cool, it has great new features, and it's free. Stop by the Sling Media website to download it.

To run the Slingbox Setup Assistant from SlingPlayer for Mac OS

  1. From the Help menu, choose Setup Assistant.
  2. Click Continue, then check to make sure that you have the latest software (always a good idea).
  3. In the next screen, select your Slingbox, then click Continue.
  4. Enter the Administrator's password when prompted. Click Continue until you reach the Location of your Slingbox screen.
  5. Select your country, then click Continue.
  6. In the next screen, click to select the input port for the device that has the wrong remote.
  7. Click Continue, and go through the rest of the Setup Assistant. For Remote Viewing setup, just keep the settings you currently have.
  8. When you're done, go back to SlingPlayer and confirm that the correct remote appears for your A/V device.
