Are you having problems updating the Slingbox Software on your Slingbox Classic?
If you install the current version of SlingPlayer and then try to update the Slingbox Software on your Slingbox Classic, you may have problems.
Here are the symptoms:
The Slingbox Software ("firmware") update fails at the beginning of the Setup Assistant.
When you try to register your Slingbox on the Sling Account site, you get a message that says:
Error: ''Invalid Slingbox ID''
Here's what's going on:
This probably occurs because the Slingbox Software in your Classic is so far out of date, the latest version of the Setup Assistant in SlingPlayer can't do its job.
Here's what to do:
Uninstall the current version of SlingPlayer from your Windows PC.
Download an older version of the software. See the related articles to the right. Make sure that you download the version for your particular region of the world.
Install the older version.
Once that is installed, configure your Slingbox.
Get it running on that old version of the software and then you can update your SlingPlayer back to the current version.
Unfortunately, you cannot do the initial setup of these particular Slingbox Classics on a Mac. But once you set up the Slingbox using the older version of the SlingPlayer for Windows, you can use your Mac to update the Slingbox moving forward.
