SlingCatcher: Frequently Asked Questions about SlingPlayer

  • What Slingbox versions are supported by SlingCatcher?
  • All Slingbox generations are supported by SlingCatcher, including the new Slingbox ProHD. They do need to have the latest version of the Slingbox Software (or firmware) installed, which you already have if you are running the latest version of SlingPlayer for Windows or Mac. Visit this support article for more details:
Slingbox Software must be up to date to work with SlingCatcher
  • If the Slingbox I am connecting to is remote, how fast does my network back home have to be for the SlingCatcher to get a good picture?
  • While the minimum upstream bandwidth at the Slingbox location for viewing is 256kbs, for SlingCatcher you will really benefit from a pipe that is faster. If you have an upload speed of a sustained 1mbps, the the picture really starts to improve. As with most stuff on the Internet, the faster the better.
  • Do I need to have a Sling Account to connect to my Slingbox?
  • You don't need a Sling Account to connect to your Slingbox if it is within your local network. However, you do need to have a Sling Account to access a Slingbox outside of your local network. Whether you're watching a Slingbox within your network or far away, having a Sling Account is a great "single sign-on" feature that keeps track of all of your Slingbox info for you. It makes it so much easier to enjoy the Slingbox experience ... wherever you're watching your TV!
  • How do I add a new Slingbox to my Slingbox list in SlingCatcher?
  • If you get a new Slingbox and want to be able to access it from your SlingCatcher, you will need to add it to your Sling Account. You can do this either of two ways:
1 - Add your new Slingbox to your Sling Account in the SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows Slingbox Directory. You will need to be logged in while you are adding the Slingbox to the SlingPlayer directory ... OR ...
2 - With either a Mac OS computer or a PC, you can add your new Slingbox by entering the Slingbox ID for your Slingbox at http://slingaccounts.slingmedia.com
NOTE: After adding your new Slingbox, you will need to log out of Sling Accounts and back in again on the SlingCatcher to refresh the Slingbox list. Just select Sling Accounts from the Settings menu.
  • Can the SlingCatcher stream a high definition picture to my TV from my Slingbox PRO-HD?
  • The SlingCatcher can stream a very high-quality image from your Slingbox PRO-HD to your TV. However, currently that image will be in standard definition (SD), not in high definition (HD).
  • How do I change the Slingbox video input from my SlingCatcher?
  • To change the video input that’s coming from a Slingbox, press the OPT key on the SlingCatcher remote control two times.
