| | SlingProjector Frequently Asked Questions
- What is SlingProjector?
- The SlingProjector program lets you select any region on your PC/laptop screen (up to 1024x768) to display on your TV via SlingCatcher. It is a great way to watch videos from your favorite streaming video web sites on the big screen.
- What kind of computer do I need?
- Not a wimpy one. The SlingProjector software works on Windows XP and Windows Vista. Click here for detailed system requirements. Virtualized PCs are strongly discouraged.
- And what about my home network?
- SlingProjector requires a consistent 5Mbps wired/wireless network connection in your house between your PC, your home router and the SlingCatcher. Wired connections (either a direct connection with a single Ethernet cable or using a pair of SlingLinks) from the SlingCatcher to your router is recommended.
- The bigger the area I project the better, right?
- Not necessarily. There a lot of variables, the most important of which being the speed and available memory on your computer and the speed of your network.
When projecting video, a smallish selection area on your computer screen will look surprisingly good on your TV screen. A smaller window is less motion to process and hence a smoother picture.
The full screen projection should not be used for anything other than slide shows and looking at photos and such. If you try to project a full screen video window, the picture will be jerky and the quality will not be so good.
If you select a projection area that is larger than 640 by 480, the picture will be down-sampled.
When projecting video from a website, we highly recommend using Internet Explorer. Other browsers may not work as well.
- Will I be able to hear the sound on my computer and on the TV?
- Nope. When you are projecting a video from your computer screen to the SlingCatcher, the sound will be disabled on the computer. You will be able to hear the sound from the TV that the SlingCatcher is connected to.
- Since this application is so intense, what can I do to make sure I have the best experience?
- Mainly make sure that your computer and network meet all the requirements. Beyond that, make sure that you computer's video and audio drivers are up to date. Visit your computer manufacturer's web site to see if there is an update for your system.
