-
If you try to download SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry from mobile.slingmedia.com, and you're getting an error telling you that your phone isn't supported -- even though you're sure that your phone is supported -- the problem may be with how your phone's browser is set up.

For easy access to your Slingbox(es) and your Mobile Favorites list of preferred channels, you need to be using SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows. (Or, at least, you must have used SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows at some point to set up your Sling Account and Mobile Favorites list). If you live in the US and use a Windows PC, you're probably all set to enjoy the great new features in SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry.
If you're a Mac user, or if you live outside the US or Canada, then you don't have access to SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows ... so you probably don't have a Sling Account fully set up with information about your Slingbox and Mobile Favorites list. Because of this, you'll need to add your Slingbox manually, and you won't have access to the Mobile Favorites feature.
- What the heck is a Sling Account, and why do I need one?
-
If you live outside the US or Canada, or if you're a Mac user, you may not be familiar with Sling Accounts. A Sling Account manages your Sling profile, which includes connection info for your Slingbox(es), password(s) for your Slingbox(es), and your Mobile Favorites list, which is a special list of channel favorites for use just with SlingPlayer Mobile. SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry retrieves Sling Account info, so you can fully enjoy SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry.
However, SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows is currently the only desktop software that supports Sling Accounts. If you didn't set up your Slingbox using SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows, you won't have access to all these cool features, unfortunately. You'll need to add your Slingboxes manually using SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry, and you won't have access to the Mobile Favorites feature. As soon as SlingPlayer 2.0 is available in Europe -- and for Mac users -- you'll have full access to these features.
- Can I use SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry with my mobile phone's data plan?
- A lot depends on your provider and their data plan. Some cellular phones and carriers may require you to change specific settings to allow video streaming from your Slingbox to your mobile phone. If you can view your Slingbox on a computer outside of your home network -- but you can't watch TV from your Slingbox on your mobile phone -- check with your carrier to ensure that your phone and data plan are configured to allow video streaming from your Slingbox.
SlingPlayer Mobile for BlackBerry has a 30-day free trial period. Please try it on your phone with your data plan before you buy it.
- How easy is it to switch back and forth between texting messages and watching SlingPlayer?
- SlingPlayer works like other BlackBerry applications. Just press the Menu key on your BlackBerry and then select Switch Application.
