Frequently Asked Questions about using the new SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows

  • Where is the Stop button? How do I disconnect from my Slingbox?
  • While you're watching your TV using SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows, you can easily disconnect from your Slingbox either by exiting SlingPlayer, or by selecting Disconnect from the Connect menu. You can also disconnect using the keyboard shortcut: Alt-X.

    The Stop button in previous versions of SlingPlayer for Windows has been replaced by the Play/Pause button, which is used by the Live Video Buffer feature. Need to step away from your desk but don't want to miss a minute of the game? Click Pause! You can pick up the game right where you left off, up to 60 minutes later.

  • SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows may not work with some proxy servers
  • If you need to enter proxy server settings manually, SlingPlayer may not be able to connect to a Slingbox outside of your local network. But please give it a try and let us know if it doesn't work. Send us feedback by selecting Help > Provide Feedback in the SlingPlayer viewing window.

  • Slingbox directory no longer syncs with SlingPlayer Mobile via ActiveSync
  • If you installed SlingPlayer Mobile on a Windows Mobile Pocket PC or Windows Mobile Smartphone using the desktop installer, your Slingbox directory contents will no longer sync to your phone once you have install SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows.

    We are aware of the problem and are working to get it resolved as quickly as possible.

  • What should I do if my selected SlingPlayer Guide lineup is not correct?
  • If your SlingPlayer Guide lineup is not correct, send us feedback. In your feedback, please include the following information:

    • Your Zip code
    • Your TV service provider
    • The type of service that you have

  • Why is a Sling Account required?
  • Your Sling Account is now at the center of your Sling experience! Now your Slingbox and SlingPlayer settings (like passwords and Favorites) are all stored in one place, so you can access them from any computer running SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows.

  • Where did my favorites go?
  • When you installed SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows, your Favorites were integrated with the new SlingPlayer Guide. Access them by clicking the drop down menu that's just above the current channel listing (to the left of the current date and time display).

    From that drop down menu, you can access, create, and edit your lists of favorite channels.

  • Where did my control buttons in my Favorites go?
  • The control buttons have been replaced and improved upon by the set of new features: the SlingPlayer Guide and Live Video Buffer. For example, you can now pause live TV with a single click. Or change channels by clicking directly on a program listing. There's no longer a need to create special "shortcut" icons to manage these common tasks.

  • I'm only watching my Slingbox from within my home network. Why do I need to have an Internet connection?
  • It is possible to watch your Slingbox while at home without an Internet connection. However, you must have an Internet connection for the following:

    • Initial setup and configuration of your Slingbox and SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows using the Slingbox Setup Assistant
    • Access to your Sling Account information for a streamlined Sling experience
    • The SlingPlayer Guide
    • Access to all Help files
    • Viewing your home Slingbox from outside your home network
    • Viewing from home any Slingbox that's outside of your network

  • What's the SlingAgentService.exe program that's running in the background?
  • SlingAgentService.exe is a small Windows service that manages the SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows software update feature. The program runs in the background. When you exit SlingPlayer, you will see SlingAgentService.exe continue to run as it continues downloads and and listens for new software updates.

  • How far back can I rewind video using the new Live Video Buffer feature?
  • The Live Video Buffer stores up to the last 60 minutes of video watched on the SlingPlayer on the current channel. If you have been watching TV for 60 minutes or more, you can pause, rewind and fast-forward through the last hour of video without it affecting TV viewers at home.

  • I created my own remote control .BIN file to control my TV source. How do I use my .BIN file to set up my device in the new Slingbox Setup Assistant?
  • If you have captured your own remote control and created a .BIN file for controlling your home TV source with SlingPlayer, you'll need to re-import that .BIN file after updating to SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows.

    How to configure your Slingbox with custom bin files in SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows

  • What is Slingbox Software and why do I have to update it?
  • Slingbox Software (sometimes referred to as firmware) is the software that's inside your Slingbox. It's like the brain of your Slingbox, encoding your audio/video signal and sending it over the Internet to your computer or mobile phone. (It's different from SlingPlayer for Windows, which you install on your computer to access your Slingbox.)

    The Slingbox Software that comes with SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows is what enables all the new features. When you launch SlingPlayer for Windows, it checks your Slingbox to see if it contains the latest Slingbox Software. If your Slingbox needs updated software, SlingPlayer for Windows takes care of it for you. Just follow the onscreen instructions.

    We strongly recommend that you install the Slingbox Software on all Slingboxes that you want to use with SlingPlayer 2.0 for Windows.
